Does the GtD Impact Foundation give legal advice?
No. GtD Impact is not a law firm and, therefore, does not give legal advice. However, it has a large network of lawyers around the world and works very closely with them.
Who does the GTD Impact Foundation support?
Everyone in need. We help minorities and unserved communities such as immigrants, marginalized communities, women in rural areas in Guatemala, and LGBTQ2+, among others.
How does GtD Impact Foundation help?
We offer various services, such as consulting services, translations, procurement of vital records, and legal education programs, to support rural communities in Guatemala. We work closely with individual clients and with our partners, law firms, and legal aid organizations, to provide the best possible assistance.
On one hand, we connect our clients with law firms that will provide legal advice. On the other hand, legal aid organizations contact us sharing their clients' needs, such as cross-border legal cases. In such cases we do our best to either connect them with one of our portfolio lawyers or we try to structure the case and give guidance for the legal aid organizations to be able to continue working independently. With funding (grants and/or donations), we can help them for free or with reduced fees.
How does GTD Impact Foundation decide who receives help?
We filter our cases working directly with legal aid organizations and with organizations that support migrants in border crisis. We follow strict eligibility guidelines for individuals to determine an individual’s eligibility to receive our help. The most urgent and eligible cases will receive the donations first.
How can I help?
Although the majority of our funding comes from grants, we need your donations to maintain our services and create more opportunities. Any amount of money can change someone’s life. If you want to volunteer, please visit the "Get Involved" section on the website.
Will I receive an update on what was done with my donation?
Yes. Every person who donates will receive an email updating them on what their donation was used for. We are happy to share the stories of our supported clients.
Will I get a donation receipt?
Yes. We are a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit corporation, and every donor will receive a donation receipt as required.
